The difference between traditional leather and outdoor leather.

- May 24, 2019-

First of all, we must distinguish from the material itself. Everyone knows that leather materials are divided into two parts: the base and the surface. Substrates generally use more resistant materials, such as sunbrella-like materials, but the difference in surface materials is huge.

The traditional outdoor leather surface is a petroleum by-product of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC has the characteristics of hot-stick, cold-brittle, long-term use temperature should not exceed 55 °C, special formula can reach 90 °C, low temperature does not exceed -10 °C. However, even if the polyvinyl chloride resin has a high purity, hydrogen chloride gas will start to escape at a temperature of 100 ° C or higher or ultraviolet radiation. There are sharp groups or unstable structures in the molecular structure. The longer the time, the more the degradation, the higher the temperature, and the faster the degradation rate. Generally, after 9 months, there will be signs of aging, which itself has serious aging characteristics. In order to make these products have a certain anti-aging effect, traditional factories add a large amount of plasticizer to PVC (mainly using plasticizers as phthalates), and the US Environmental Protection Agency uses larger doses of DEHP to feed them. The male and male rats have degeneration of the vas deferens, the forearm pituitary cells are hypertrophied, and even a large amount of industrial rubber is added. The traditional outdoor leather that can be produced in a standardized manner can be used under certain conditions for more than 5 years. However, because the plasticizer used in a large amount in the production process will continue to volatilize, the added rubber will also age, and such outdoor leather still has a large risk of use. Especially in wet coastal areas, or in hot desert areas, alkali, high temperature, and ultraviolet light will accelerate the aging of such leather products. The actual age of the products can not be determined. In theory, the risk of using such products outdoors is also extremely high. Big.

The surface of high-performance outdoor leather is silicone rubber polymer. The main material is silica gel, which is often talked about. It can be stably in the temperature range of -60 ° C to 220 ° C. For ultraviolet light, acid and alkali salt (except strong acid and alkali) It has strong resistance, the surface is hydrophobic, breathable, it does not have to be moved in the rain, there is no odor, even in the high temperature environment, no harmful substances are emitted, the theoretical aging cycle reaches 20 years (the actual use of 10 years has not found signs of aging). The pigments used in outdoor leather are mostly inorganic pigments, and the probability of discoloration and fading is very low, and it is difficult for the naked eye to observe the change of color. Considering that outdoor products often come into direct contact with human skin, there is no problem of allergies.
